Europäische Kommission, Generaldirektion Informationsgesellschaft und Medien (EC, GD Information Society and Media)

Die Generaldirektion "Information Society and Media" bei der Europäischen Kommission unterstützt die Entwicklung und den Einsatz der Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien (IKT) zum Nutzen aller Bürger. Insbesondere möchte sie die weit verbreitete Verfügbarkeit und Zugänglichkeit insbesondere derjenigen IKT-Dienste fördern, die sich am stärksten auf die Lebensqualität der Bürger auswirken.

Dazu wurden durch die EU verschiedene Förderprgramme aufgelegt. Die GD "Information Society and Media" ist u.a. zuständig für die Umsetzung der Programme eContentplus, eTEN; CIP ICT PSP und für das dritte Thema (IKT - Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien) im spezifischen Programm "Zusammenarbeit" im 7. Forschungsrahmenprogramm der EU.
